Last 2019, many nationalities that need a visa for South Korea, including Filipinos, can enter the country without one. South Korea’s tourism has boomed since 2014. This may be due to the influence of KPop and KDramas, and that opportunity to go there is not strict. There is also an increase in applications about having a South Korea Tourist Visa. Before you can do it personally, but now, you’ll need a travel agency. Before, it will take less than a week, but there came a time it required a month or 2 weeks. This Visa Free announcement is an advantage.

Here are the ways Filipinos can go to South Korea Visa Free:

1. Through Transit or Stop

You can go to South Korea visa free through this condition if:

a. You have a visa, re-entry permit, or permanent residency for the following countries:

  • Australia (you must have a visa label attached to your passport especially if an e-visa or be coming from Australia)
  • Canada
  • Cyprus
  • New Zealand
  • Romania
  • Republic of Ireland
  • Schengen
  • UK
  • USA (with conditions)

b. You have an onward ticket to the Philippines or a return ticket to the country that issued a visa within 30 days.

c. In three years, you have no criminal offense in the country who issued you a visa; you haven’t been denied or deported in South Korea

d. Should you have a transit or stop in another country before the Philippines or the visa issuer, it’s not more than 3 days.

Here are some examples to make it easier:

  • OK – (01/01) Philippines to South Korea then (01/29) South Korea to USA – provided you have a valid US Visa or Resident Permit
  • NOT OK – (01/01) Philippines to South Korea then (02/05) South Korea to USA – even though you have a valid US visa, the transit or stop is more than 30 days
  • OK – (01/01) Philippines to South Korea then (01/05) South Korea to Guam or Saipan, USA – provided you have a valid US Visa or Resident Permit
  • NOT OK – (01/01) USA to Saipan then (01/05) Saipan to South Korea then (01/05) SK to Philippines – it’s not permitted as per their requirement
  • OK – (01/01) Italy to South Korea then (01/15) South Korea to Philippines – provided you have a valid Schengen Visa
  • NOT OK – (01/01) Italy to South Korea then (01/15) South Korea to Philippines – your Schengen visa has already expired last year
  • OK – (01/01) Philippines to Taiwan then (01/03) Taiwan to South Korea then (01/10) South Korea to Canada – provided you have a valid Canada Visa
  • NOT OK – (01/01) Philippines to Taiwan then (01/05) Taiwan to South Korea then (01/10) South Korea to Canada – even if you have a Canada Visa, your transit in Taiwan is more than 3 days
  • NOT OK – (01/01) Philippines to Taiwan then (01/03) Taiwan to South Korea then (01/06) South Korea to Taiwan then (01/07) Taiwan to Canada – not permitted as your return from your previous point of departure
  • OK – (01/01) Australia to South Korea then (01/10) South Korea to Philippines – since you came from Australia
    NOT OK – (01/01) Philippines to South Korea then (01/10) South Korea to Australia – if you have an e-visa as there is no visa label

2. Foreign Transfer Passengers

In case you are not one of the mentioned above, you can enter a South Korea Visa Free if you are eligible for all of the following:

How to Go to South Korea Visa Free for Filipinos

a. Transferring through Incheon Airport

b. Are a part of Transit Tourist Program

c. On your way back to the Philippines or another country

d. Have a transfer ticket for a maximum of 72 hours

e. Staying in Seoul Capital Area

To avail of the free tour:

  • Prepare your passport, boarding pass, or e-ticket
  • You can book at VisitKoreaForMe, Incheon Airport, Transit Tour Info Desk or e-mail transit-tour@airport.kr
  • It’s on a first come first serve basis
  • You shoulder entrance fees to attractions and meal

3. Jeju Area

You can also enter Jeju in South Korea Visa Free; however, these conditions apply:

  • Flights or ship is directly going and departing from Jeju
  • It’s visa free for 30 days only
  • You will need a return or onward ticket

Please note that there are no direct flights from the Philippines to South Korea. There may be Jeju Air, but usual flights are to Incheon, where you will need a South Korea Tourist Visa. A good option is to have a flight to Jeju from Hong Kong or Taiwan.
