If you have a Hyatt card is being converted to a World of Hyatt card on January 11, 2021. You can no longer earn bonus points to upgrade to the World of Hyatt card. But you can still earn a free night.
Legacy Hyatt cardholders can no longer keep their cards effective January 11, 2021. Whether you want to product change to the new World of Hyatt card or not, it will happen. The only decision you have to make is it worth having the World of Hyatt card.
Earn a Free Night
Don’t want to migrate to the new card? No worries, but don’t close your account yet. Because you’ll lose out on earning a free night. Planning to switch? You can also earn a free night. 🙂
You can earn a free night at any Category 1 to 4 Hyatt hotel worldwide after spending $4,000 by December 31, 2020.
Pro-tip: You have to register for the offer by November 30, 2020.
This offer is only available if you have a Hyatt card. World of Hyatt cardholders aren’t eligible for this promotion.
Differences Between Hyatt Cards
There are several key differences between the Hyatt cards. From the annual fee to how many points you earn staying at Hyatt hotels. From bonus point categories to the ability to earn Globalist status.
The annual fee for the Hyatt card is $75. While the World of Hyatt card has an annual fee of $95.
Pro-tip: The additional $20 annual fee cost is well worth it.
Earn Globalist Status Through Spend
With the World of Hyatt card, you can earn Globalist status through spending. The Hyatt card is limited to Discoverist status and you have to earn Globalist the hard way.
You earn 2 tier-qualifying (elite qualifying) nights for every $5,000 you spend on the World of Hyatt card. There is no limit to how many elite nights you can earn.
Essentially, you can earn Globalist status without spending a single night at a Hyatt hotel.
Pro-tip: This lets you earn milestone rewards of free nights, bonus points, and suite upgrades.
Five Elite Nights a Year
To jump start your way to Globalist status, you get five elite nights a year with the World of Hyatt card.
Pro-tip: Free elite nights post on January 1 every year.
A Free Night at a Category 1 to 4 Hotel
You can earn a free night at a Category 1 to 4 hotel when you spend $15,000 using your World of Hyatt card.
Pro-tip: Spending is based on your card anniversary year vs calendar year. Starting January 1, 2022, it will be based on a calendar year.
Earn More Points
With the World of Hyatt card you earn more points for Hyatt stays and on select purchases. Here’s a chart showing the differences.
Bonus Points Amazon & Groceries
Some Hyatt and World of Hyatt cardholders can also earn bonus points on Amazon and groceries. If you were targeted, you can earn 5X points for every $1 spent on Amazon and 3X points for every $1 spent at grocery stores up to $1,500 in purchases every month through December 31, 2020.
Your Hyatt card is being converted to the World of Hyatt card on January 11, 2021. You don’t have to do anything because your card will automatically convert.
While you’ll pay $20 more in annual fees, it’s worth the benefits of free nights, earning more points on purchases, free tier-qualifying nights, and being able to earn Globalist status through spending.
