Patiala is the 4th largest city in the state of Punjab in North India. The city is famous for its traditional accessories and clothing like Patiala Jhuti (Shoes), Patiala Salwar (Female attire), Patiala Shahi Turban, Patiala Peg (the measurement of drink). The city is located around Qila Mubarak, which was laid down by Baba Ala Singh and Sardar Lakhna in 1763. Gurudwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib

Gurudwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib is located in Lehal village, which is now a part of Patiala city. It is situated very near to bus stand, so it won’t  be a problem to visit this landmark. The Gurudwara complex is spread across several acres. The interior of the building is paved with white and grey Marbles. The construction of this Gurudwara is splendid and displays one of the many examples of Sikh architecture. The serene Sarovar adjacent to this Gurudwara adds to its beauty.

Bahadurgarh Fort

Bahadurgarh fort is located on Patiala-Chandigarh road, which is about 6 kilometers away from the city of Patiala and takes few minutes to reach there. It took 8 years and amount of Rupees 10 lakhs to build this fort. Bahadurgarh fort was named by Maharaja Karam Singh, which is a tribute to Guru Tej Bahadur. You should definitely visit this Gurudwara in your trip to Patiala. The best time to visit it is during Baisakhi.

Maa Kali Devi Mandir

Maa Kali Devi is a Hindu Goddess and this temple is dedicated to her. This temple was built by Maharaja Bhupindra Singh, who was the Sikh ruler of the princely state of Patiala from 1900-1938. Maharaja Bhupindra brought 6 feet statue of Maa Kali from Bengal and installed it at Patiala. The temple has a beautiful structure and it has been declared as a national monument. It attracts both Hindus and Sikh devotees round the year.

Qila Mubarak Complex

Qila Mubarak is the most important landmark in the city of Patiala. It is located in the heart of the city and is spread across 10 acres of land. The complex has the main palace, guesthouse, and the Durbar hall. Outside the Qila there are Lord Shiva temple and Bazaar, which sells unique and precious ornaments. Qila Mubarak is another fine example of Sikh architecture and one should visit it to see the royalty of Patiala rulers.

Sheesh Mahal

Sheesh Mahal, which in English means “Mirror Palace” was built in 19th century by Maharajas. It is a part of old Moti bagh palace. Sheesh Mahal displays the grandeur of Maharajas. It has the museum which houses all the medals collected by Maharaja Bhupindra Singh. Sheesh Mahal has a beautiful lake near it and a Lakshman Jhula (a bridge) is built across it adds to the beauty of Sheesh Mahal.

Baradari Garden

Baradari garden houses some rare trees and shrubs. The statue of Maharaja Rajindra Singh is also set over here. After restoration it was opened as Heritage Hotel, infact, it is the first heritage hotel of Punjab.

The city os Patiala displays some nice example of Sikh architecture and royalty of Patiala rulers.
