Despite being a certified yoga teacher after months in lockdown I’m getting bored of my own practice at home and can’t wait to practice yoga again with other people. Normally I’d jet off somewhere exotic like India, Bali or Thailand but with these countries closed to tourists now is the perfect time to look closer to home and luckily some great UK yoga retreats have reopened and adhere to new hygiene, safety and distancing regulations.
Many yoga retreats in the UK offer much more than just yoga, you can also try things like meditation, sound healing, pranayama (breathing exercises), qi gong, massage and yoga nidra (a relaxing guided meditation also known as yogic sleep) The best UK yoga retreats are located in spacious and peaceful rural locations which you can explore in your free time or join a guided mindful walk organised by the retreat. Some offer the opportunity to detox or follow a juice cleanse while others include delicious healthy (usually vegetarian) food, some even have hot tubs!
My recommended UK yoga retreats have implemented new hygiene and distancing measures to keep everyone healthy and safe and are only accepting limited guests so make sure you book well in advance to avoid disappointment. Many yoga retreats in the UK are held over the weekends so you won’t even need to take much time off work for a refreshing and revitalizing break for your mind, body and soul.
Whether you’re a beginner and recently got into yoga during lockdown as an easy way to exercise at home or if you are an more advanced yogi wanting to learn more, deepen your practice, meet like minded people and have a change of scenery there are many fabulous UK yoga retreats for a healthy post lockdown break in a safe and supportive environment. (Note that most of the photos in the article were taken pre-covid)
My recommendations of the best UK yoga retreats come from personal experiences, recommendations from friends and my own research. I always use BookYogaRetreats.com, its like the Booking.com for yoga retreats! I love how you can read reviews of the yoga retreats from people who’ve already been there. After all, not all yoga retreats are created equal and you want your yoga retreat to be relaxing and memorable for all the right reasons!
