Places to visit in Dehradun, the jewel of Doon valley

Dehradun is the capital of Indian state of Uttarakhand. It holds the top position among North India tourist places and connects to mesmerizing hill stations like Mussoorie and Nainital and religious landmarks like Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Chota Char Dham. It is also an important educational hub and several prestigious institutions like Doon School, Indian Military Academy (IMA), Welham school of Girls & Boys proudly stands here. Dehradun city is located in the Doon valley and is bordered by sacred rivers like Ganga and Yamuna. Being one of the oldest cities of India, it houses some sacred temples, waterways etc. The place is directly connected from all the major place of India. Robbers Cave is about 12 kilometers from main city and is located on Dehradun-Mussoorie road. The name “Robber’s Cave” is symbolic, as this place is believed to be most preferred hideout for robbers in the past. It is now one of the famous picnic spot and tourists mainly visit here during summer to enjoy cold water inside the cave. One can see beautiful waterfall both small and big inside the cave.



Sahastradhara is located on Sahastradhara road and is located about 15 kilometers from main city of Dehradun and it will take about 30 minutes to reach there. The main attraction of Sahastradhara is its awesome waterfalls and caves.


Tapkeshwar Temple

Tapkeshwar is a sacred temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is located about 5 kilometers from the Dehradun city. The temple is believed to have the oldest Shivling and the water drops on it continuously. The temple is also associated with Hindu epic Mahabharata.



Lacchiwala is another popular picnic spot located about 15 kilometers from main Dehradun city. It is a good place to visit with family and friends.

Malsi Deer park is a famous zoo in Dehradun. One can leisurely spend his time here adoring the beauty of wildlife. Entry fee of this zoo is 10 INR and it remains open from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. It is popular among kids and adult alike.

Asan Barrage is located about 40 kilometers from main city of Dehradun and is ideal place for bird’s photographer and lovers. One can spot lots of migratory birds here. One can spend his time here with his friends and family, in the lap of nature.
