Tips and tricks when attending the École Ducasse Online Culinary eXperience by Enderun

Manila, Philippines — 2020 may be over. However, the COVID-19 threat still looms, and although we’ve been getting excellent developments on vaccines and more people finally able to get access to it in some countries, it doesn’t mean we have to be lenient. After all, health and safety will never stop being our priority.

And if you were one of the many who were forced to stay indoors and cook food by yourself during the lockdown (raising my hand), why not take on a new challenge this 2021 and continue your culinary or pastry making journey with École Ducasse Online Culinary eXperience by Enderun, right in the comfort of your own home.

You will also be learning exclusively from The École Ducasse Manila Culinary and Pastry chefs while getting the chance to interact directly with them through a scheduled live discussion for every recipe you cook. All culinary kits may be delivered right at your doorstep to avoid the hassle of securing the ingredients on your own! But before you enroll, we suggest doing the following tips to make your online cooking experience as smooth as possible.

Tip#1: Be present at the address when you receive your online cooking class kit.

Your kit should arrive early before the scheduled live discussion, so get yourself and your fridge ready so you can store the ingredients before you actually start with your online culinary journey. Some ingredients are meant to be placed in the chiller, some should remain frozen, and some should be kept at room temperature.

Not available to receive your kit? Make sure you endorse it properly to anyone who can handle the goods for you on your behalf.

Tip#2: Attend the Students’ Orientation

This ensures that you know how and when to access your account, the videos, and when to finish your online activities. This is also a great way to say hi to other students who registered for the same class. Say hello to your classmates!

Tip#3: Prepare your own tools and equipment.

Sure, registering for an online class and giving you all the ingredients is great, but it won’t be successful if you don’t use the right tools. Check if you have them in your kitchen; otherwise, proceed to purchase or just borrow some items from your neighbors, I guess. Safety first and wear your masks and shields, and disinfect before doing so!

Another great tip is to use alternatives for other gadgets; take, for example, using your oven or broiler if you don’t have a torch, something that we’ve dealt with when we did a short course on making Creme Brulee. There are specific tools to use for every cooking and baking technique, so ensure you have everything checked before you follow École Ducasse Online Culinary eXperience by Enderun’s easy to follow learning videos.

Tip#4: Ask questions during the live discussion.

Don’t be shy with your instructor. They will surely have a lot of stuff to share already, but it doesn’t hurt to ask about some hurdles you may have experienced when preparing or cooking the dish you’re trying to learn. You can even get some good cooking tips and secrets just by engaging in a conversation with your instructor.

Tip#5: Practice, practice, practice.

Many great cooks usually learn from other people wherein, over time, they can make it their own version of dishes, and Enderun encourages you to make it your own and never stop practicing the craft. Most of all, you may experience a few mistakes along the way, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up. So wear that apron, clench your fists, and get ready for an afternoon cooking and/or baking!
