    Places to visit on the way to Mysore from Bangalore

    Often called as the ‘Cultural Capital of Karnataka’, Mysore is one of the most popular tourist places to visit in Karnataka. The erstwhile capital of the Mysore Maharajas is known worldwide for its dazzling royal heritage, intricate architecture, famed silk sarees, yoga, and sandalwood.     Shivanasamudra Falls

    Formed over River Kaveri, Shivanasamudra Fall is a spectacular set of twin waterfalls situated on the way to Mysore from Bangalore. This is the place where River Kaveri splits and jumps over the rocky hill, further forming the waterfall. It is one of the must include places in Shivanasamudra tour packages, and among the most popular waterfalls near Mysore. The waterfall is divided into two waterfalls namely Gaganachukki and Barachukki. Dropping from a height of 90 m, Gaganachukki is a horse-tail-shaped waterfall and two large parallel streams cascade down through a rocky bed whereas Barachukki cascades from a height of 70 m forming several streams through the wide rocky formations that offer a breathtaking sight in the peak monsoons. This is the perfect place for a day trip from Bangalore for ultimate relaxation.

    Somnathpur

    Somnathpur is well known for the breathtaking Prasanna Chennakeshava Temple, one of the three famous & finest representations of Hoysala architecture (the other two being temples at Belur & Halebid). This is one of the wonderful places to visit near Bangalore and Mysore. Located on the banks of the Cauvery River, this temple was built in 1268 by Somnatha, a general of Hoysala King Narasimha III. The temple comprises three shrines and three wonderfully carved vimanas with a common Mandapa. The three sanctums once housed beautifully carved idols of Keshava, Janardhana, and Venugopala. The most characteristic feature of this temple is its 16 different ceilings, each depicting a different stage of a blooming plantain (banana flower).     Talakadu

    Situated on the banks of Kaveri River, Talakadu is a beautiful place surrounded by temples. It is one of the popular places to visit on the way to Mysore from Bangalore, and among the must include places in Somnathpur tour packages. Talakadu had over 30 temples, most are them are buried in the sand today. Some of these temples have been excavated and are open to the public. There are five temples dedicated to Lord Siva – Pathaleshwara, Maruleshwara, Arkeshwara, Vaideeshwara, and Mallikarjuneshwara Temple. The Keerthinarayana temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu is a beautiful site with wonderful carvings.

    Srirangapatna

    Srirangapatna or Srirangapattana is a historical town located in Mandya district of Karnataka. Owing to its cultural, religious and historic importance, it is one of the popular places of heritage in Karnataka and among the top places to visit near Mysore. The town is home to the famous Ranganathaswamy temple, among the must include places in Srirangpatna tour packages. Also, the monuments on the island town have been nominated as a UNESCO world heritage site. Besides, Daria Daulat (Palace of Tippu Sultan), Gumbaz (Mausoleum of Tipu Sultan), Nimishamba Temple, Sangama, Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary etc., are some of the important places to visit in Srirangapatna.

    Bheemeswari

    Bheemeshwari is a small town located between the Shivanasamudra Falls and Mekedatu. This is one of the popular tourist places to visit near Bangalore and among the well known places for the activities of trekking and adventure near Bangalore. Bheemeshwari is a great spot for eco-tourism and is a natural habitat for the Mahseer fish found in the waters of the Cauvery River. Several fishing camps have been developed here where professional and amateur anglers can catch mahseer. The surrounding lush forest cover is home to many animals like elephants, wild boars, monkeys, jackals, crocodiles, otters, and leopards. Bheemeshwari is surrounded by lush green forests and lies in the midst of steep valleys, this place is ideal for trekking and there are many trekking trails here.
